Following the planting, the young tree prospered till spring, then all leaves withered and the tree appears to be dying!
ps I water every 2nd day. used potting mix with the original planting, and regularly fertilised with chicken manure.
Could a foreign fungus be the culprit? Will the tree revive?

Welcome!

Evergreen Ash (Fraxinus udhei) is native to Mexico. It is a popular tree in Southern California because, although it needs regular water, is considered somewhat drought tolerant.

Try watering once a week but water deeply - put your hose on drip and water until the water is puddling. Stop using chicken manure - fertilizer is the last thing a new (and struggling) tree needs. If you are using raw manure, you may be burning the roots off anyway.
