why does our habiscus plant seem to die during the winter months even though its indoors?

Hibiscus are not great indoor plants because they do struggle in winter when the daylight hours are much shorter. They really require maximum direct sunlight all year round when they are indoors. Pruning yours back substantially - really, as much as you can stand - will help it through the winter.
