Many peonies are more expensive this year but a very few are cheaper. Still additional $10 for Alaskans.

I've always thought Harvey's peonies are very reasonable for the size of the plants, JMHO.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Yes, Saunders peonies are very special, found a few that I have not seen before also. And Maxcine Wolfe looks interesting on the photo. Looking forward to seeing photos of them, Liz!

Wonder if he has it mis-ided. I saw another pic of MW that looked like yours, Frank; I'll do more research. There was another one that I got from him within the last few falls that was pointed out as a mid-id, can't remember which right now....he had it mid-ided the year I got it but offered the correct one the next year.
I really like the look of the flower he's offering but I want to know the name; I don't want to replicate and so mine are labeled correctly. I'll send an email and ask after I go back through post here to find that other pic....

I couldn't resist so I ordered Campagne, Lovely Rose and Roselette's Child from HS. I was looking for singles in lighter shades. I have enough doubles and bombs.

I looked online and there was an item from Hidden Springs saying Roselette's Child was sold out and not available until 2021. So don't know if I am getting it or not.

I agree, MAXCINE WOLFE on Hidden Springs site looks different, and the peony database and APS cultivar registration just says " Late, midseason, pink".

Mary, your chosen peonies are wonderful! I checked, Roselette's Child is still available. All three together will look very nice, good combination of colors!

Thanks Anya. My husband will just shake his head after all my complaining about having no space. There is area left, that if I move a hydrangea bush, will provide space for these last three. "Last three..." who am I kidding. lol

I see their fern leaf double is $65 and the single is $45. They usually sell out quickly but the prices keep creeping upward. I guess it is just a matter of how bad a person wants one. The members of this forum having mature clumps of them can divide them and restart the clumps over a wide area. I had divided mine several times and never lost one except for a large clump of singles in a large bucket of dirt for storage until I could make a new bed. It had something like a dozen eyes but the roots rotted from too much water. If I was younger, I would have tried a raised rock garden for mine but I made the local garden club a group of happy campers by donating all of mine except for 3 divisions which were sent elsewhere.

Mary, I got Roselette's Child this fall. If it blooms, I will post a pic of it for you to see. The color is described as peach apricot - sounds like such a special and pretty color combination. Saunders peonies truly have interesting and lovely color. One that I really like from this year is Winged Victory- a pretty white flushed with pink. Another of Saunders peony that I am excited to see its bloom is Nosegay. It's been planted since fall 2015 and hasn't bloomed yet. Hope it will bloom for me next year.

Jerry, my double fernleaf is such a slow grower! After 3 years, I still have only 5 stems this spring. But it is certainly one of the most beautiful red peony and has the most unique and gorgeous foliage out there.

I wish I had more space in the garden! Saunders peonies are so special, I have quite a few on my list!

Jerry I wanted Double Fernleaf badly and bought another one from Fina for this year planting. The root was good , much better than the one from Lithuania (peonynursary), not only Double Fernleaf died in the garden last winter but also a few others from this place. Hidden Springs added a couple of dollars to many peonies this year and made Itohs cheaper. I follow a few peony places, just interesting how the peony market goes. Definitely one can find Double Fern on the market cheaper than $65, right now - https://www.etsy.com/listing/2...

Fina and Solaris also had it cheaper. It is just a wonderful peony, I admired it in the local botanical garden.

I had several double fern leafs which were hand-me-downs from my wife's grandmother. They were of unknown origin but grew well and seemed to increase more slowly than the singles but did have multiple eyes within 3 to 4 years. I purchased one from Hidden Springs which was a true species one and it grew much more slowly than my heirloom ones. That is why I sent 3 small undivided doubles to Harvey at Hidden Springs for his examination and study to see if they were of another strain of the species. I think Mary received 3 small roots off the HSFF species FL. They were the only roots I had left of that particular FL.

Indeed, Jerry. I know just where I planted them at the botanical Garden. On my last fall walkabout they were showing red pips. I have great hopes for them next spring. Our smouthii both grew and bloomed this spring. Planted last fall 2016. I had it planted on a west bank getting almost all day in the spring. Am hoping that bank will develop into a lovely species collection.

I hope I gave the correct ones to you. I am 99.9% certain but the first bloom will tell the story. I had several fls in the bed but the species double was dug last of all.

We are so grateful for whatever they are. Fernies for sure, whatever form. I don't know which beds excite me more in the spring, ABg's or my own. I feel rather proprietary about ABG as I have doubled the number of peonies they started with. Still need to invest in more Itoh's to spread the bloom season. The species and fernies have extended it back into the spring, so I need to check my database to find the 'weak' months.

I got Roselette's Child from Swenson's In 2016. It didn't bloom this Spring, but if if blooms next year I will certainly post pictures.
Thumbs up
