I've just ordered 50 packs of mystery seeds from the Chiltern's 25% off sale so I'll be ready to pack AHEAD OF TIME when they get here. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I think you may be getting addicted! Rolling on the floor laughing

@DogsNDaylilies Just curious on how are the dibs are going to work? How many will we get, and earn, when we sell?
I know with the previous swaps it multiplied.
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

I thought about ordering from Chilterns too! :D I spent this morning going thru seeds I've bought/traded this year and organizing, and packaging some.

That's right! I only ordered 1 kind of seeds from 1 other company. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Since I read that post about Chilterns having a 25% off sale I had to get some. In case DH asks, I'm calling them my stocking stuffers. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

If anyone does order from them, please tell them you're from NGA so they get to know us. Or you could tell them you know me, Leslie Mauck, since I've ordered bargain packs from them 3 times this fall. *Blush*

BXNCBX ,
That is a gorgeous lily! What is the name of it? I love the color!

BTW, I just found the extra chat discussions today after we'd already swapped so this is all new to me. I only had my organic veggies and several perennials so I went and bought some plants and seeds but they only arrived in time for the upcoming lightning round. Now after spending nearly $200 on that, I see the sales mentioned above and the favored seed sites. Ouch! Blinking Crying
This was my first swap so I'm still learning and completely inspired by all of you.
Thanks for the fun swap! Thank You!

Hi Renee,

Thanks! I love that color too! That daylily (may it rest in peace) was one of my first seedlings. That picture is from the first year it bloomed. It never looked as good again! It also bloomed way down in the foliage so I composted it this year. I did do some crosses with it though since it grew and increased like a weed and that trait is very rare for me.

Please don't think we only order seeds from certain vendors! I personally shop at lots of different places at all different price points. I haven't found that more expensive seeds germinate better or give you better plants. Your seeds will be more than welcome here no matter where you got them from! I love organic veggies so I'm sure I'll be bidding on some of what you offer. I'm also just learning the value of perennials so I'll most likely bid on those too (assuming they are hardy way up here).

A few of us are just starting to order from foreign companies. Personally, some I like, others I probably won't be ordering from again (too few seeds for too much money).

If you bought seeds/plants that you personally love and want to grow then rest assured someone else will want them too. But if you are going to spend that much $$ it pays to find out when the sales are! So be sure to check out the Garden Deals forum where people post sales for all different types of plant-related companies. And if you find a great deal, feel free to post it here too!

Question for our host, DogsNDaylilies,

I understand getting all the tickets at once and the mayhem that ensues. How will tickets earned for "sold" seeds work? Will they start off at a higher ratio and decrease as time goes by like a typical swap does over the course of days? Just wondering. I guess this may depend upon the number of seeds offered.

Richard, good question. The system programming isn't being changed for this swap, so the ratio of tickets earned for each sold pack will remain the same throughout the whole 24-hours of the swap.

That's good information to know. This might be a good discussion for other swappers to join in. I just completed my first swap so that's the extent of my experience. If the ratio of tickets stays the same throughout the swap, which would be .5 ticket for each pack sold, is it best or easiest just to list all your offers at the beginning of the swap rather than replenishing them as they are sold? It seems if the ratio doesn't change there's no real reason for strategy, but I could be completely wrong. Any veteran swappers with advice or opinions?

I would say that for a swap of this short duration it would be best to list everything now. It will most likely be over in an hour (or less) so you may not get a chance to replenish.

I guess for a longer swap you might want to get strategic but I'm not sure what the best strategy would be. If I add items to the swap after it starts it's because I didn't get a chance to do it before.

I'm putting all of mine in at the beginning because it will be over so quickly and because there won't be a drop in the earn rate. The strategy for this one is a long list of offerings and a fast computer. Hilarious!

Lalambchop1, I'm more worried about a fast computer operator than a fast computer! Hilarious! I hadn't thought about it being over so quickly, but it makes sense. Just like a normal swap is only a few minutes each day.

************Important Notice**************

If you are signed up for this swap, please have your seeds entered into the swap (not just the system) at least 3 days prior to the start time.

My recommendation: make a mental note to get your seeds entered between now and the first of the year. Thumbs up

I will be going in 2-3 days before the swap begins and removing anyone that is clearly inactive and/or doesn't have any seeds in the swap at that point, particularly if the swap is full by then. (We only have 5 spots left at the moment.).... If there is a removal that results in new members being added, don't worry, the new members will be asked to complete their seed lists at least 24 hours prior to the swap start time.

Aside from making room for active members, the three days prior to a swap is very important for wish-list formation; having seeds entered in at least three days prior to the swap will allow fellow members to see what you have available and add it to their wish lists with their star ratings before the swap starts. This is important for you because the more people that get a chance to see your seeds, the more you are likely to sell; and the more seeds you 'sell,' the more tickets you can earn!

Another tip for your listing.... This swap pays to offer multiples where you can. Anything I've collected out of my gardens will have more offerings than a simple traded seed not needed in your stash any longer. Pay attention to how many wishes you have for that plant and adjust your offerings accordingly or as you can.

This is a one shot deal. List all that you can as it pays on that one night instead of over several days. One shot listings are great for those swaps on the first couple of nights. This swap, better to offer all that you can. :)

The last of the seeds just came in yesterday's mail.

Unfortunately, that means that we are a little behind in our timeline. I'm sorry to those of you who start your seeds in January; your seeds will be a little later than originally anticipated. I'm going to try to eke out enough time to get them all packaged and sorted in the next couple of days. All going well, your seeds will be going out to the post office either this Friday or Saturday, and should be out in the mail to all of you early to mid-week next week. Crossing Fingers!
