Someone from my work gave me what they called a "Jerusalem root" also saying it's a vine like plant that comes back every year and the leaves are heart shaped. I was wanting to do some research on it but I cannot find any information on it. Can someone please help me identify this plant.

I agree, it does look like the fruit of the Air Potato!! The plants have really beautiful leaves but some species are extremely invasive. We have D. bulbifera here in Florida that is really hard to eradicate!

Dioscorea oppositifolia is Ranked as Category 2 in North Carolina (Displays invasive charateristics but does not appear to present as great a threat as plants with number 1 ranking): http://www.ncwildflower.org/pl...

Now that you have the identity, please...enjoy it as it grows, but please be responsible and to not let it escape into the wild. Depending on climate, it could become a serious problem. Yes, I still have this plant in my garden, but I am careful to keep it contained. Thumbs up

@greene, please, please tell me how you keep it contained.

The very small (approximately 12 acre) botanical gardens where I've volunteered over the years has a huge problem with D. bulbifera taking over some areas. Volunteers spend a lot of time during the year, working at getting it out but even after quite a few years, it's still going strong.

Sighing! So pretty and yet at the same time ... so horrid!
