Here is a really old one from 1936. This may be available in 2018 from Superstition Iris Gardens; since the photo came from their facebook page published this year (2017). They attribute this to hybridizer "Weeds". Our database says "National Iris Gardens".

Howard Weed owned a commercial nursery named the National Iris Garden. He and his family members often registered irises under the name National Iris Garden rather than the name of the individual who actually hybridized them. It's not an uncommon way of handling registrations. Schreiner's and Cayeux, to name just a couple of examples, do essentially the same thing even today.

That is indeed interesting information. Makes sense as to why it was finally introduced after being registered so long ago!

I must be missing something? Michelangelo was introduced in 1936.

Sorry Kent. I was confusing this "Barbara Walther" which was registered in 1959 and introduced in 2015.

I tend to do too many at the same time and confuse some of the details (I should go and look back before making off the cuff remarks D'Oh! )
