Does anyone know the name of this flower? While out on a walk today in San Diego, CA, I was overtaken by an incredibly wonderful aroma coming from a bush. The bush had little white bell-like flowers on it. I took some pictures to help you identify the name of the bush/flowers. I would love to plant this in my backyard. Please let me know what the name of this flower/bush is. Thank you.

I agree Definitely Eleagnus, a small flower with a big fragrance.

Look to the opposite vs. alternate arrangement of leaves, to exclude potential answers.

Osmanthus sp. have oppositely arranged simple evergreen leaves.

A great hallmark of Elaeagnus sp. is the presence of structural scales found on pretty much all the plant's parts, from leaf surfaces to stems to flowers to fruits to buds.

TY, John. I could not determine the leaf arrangement from the pics. I'm not good @ that unless it's blatantly obvious.

And that's OK! Hedge your guess by saying: "If that plant has opposite arrangement of those simple leaves, then it possibly could be Osmanthus fragrans."

That points out to others to use leaf arrangement, too, to help narrow the ID field.

It also notifies the submitter to provide images (or info) that clearly shows or states opposite-ness versus alternate-ness.

Elaeagnas! Don't know which one.
Sometimes the fragrance happens even before the flowers open. Drives the bumblebees crazy!!
