I've been meaning to ask all day and keep forgetting. Anyhow, it used to be when I came to my computer and typed in www.garden.org, I'd get a front page with a beautiful photo and different information, like forum stuff, etc. I don't remember for sure exactly how it looked but I'm pretty sure it looked a lot more inviting than what I'm seeing now.

My husband showed me how to do a screen shot and this is currently what I see before I actually log in. Is this something new or is it something that changed when my hubby updated my laptop operating system.

I think everyone sees it, Lin. I see it as a bit of promotional information to entice new people to the site.

I think that page you're seeing only shows up when you're not logged in. Mine seems to stay logged in whenever I come back to the site, but maybe you got logged out when you updated your laptop?

That is true, you see it when you are logged out. It replaced the previous page that you saw only when you were logged out.

Yes, I'm starting to experiment with the homepage for non-logged in people. This is just a start and won't affect any members who are logged in.

That is really cool and I like it. I would never have seen it as I never log off.

My thought was if someone comes across it googling and clicks the link to see what it's all about, it's just a rather plain, bland page. For me, a pretty picture always draw me in and make me want to find out more. If I were not already a member and knew about how awesome the site is, I may not sign up to learn more ... but that may just be me.

I agree with Lin. But aside from her point I have a different concern. As many will recall, we had a lively debate not too long ago re the Knowledge Base. A recurring issue was the age of some Q & A's, as well as info in some older articles. So when I read the new intro screen I was worried that it would have people searching for articles, etc., that might be outdated. However, maybe some busy bees here have been updating the articles.
I do think that the intro is a nice idea. I bet someone more or artistic than I am (meaning anyone) could add a pretty picture or photograph as a backdrop to the text to make the screen more enticing.
Anybody?

tx, there used to be pretty photos along with the text but Dave said he is experimenting with the non log in screen.

Well it would help if I didn't always skim things so quickly.

Also I don't stay logged in. To anything. Too confusing.

If my old brain is remembering correctly Smiling I think that I used to stay logged in when we were All Things Plants ... but for the life of me, I can't remember how I did it. I don't log out now but I quit Firefox and the next time I open my laptop, the garden.org page is there but I have to log back in to the site.

You must have it set to clear your cookies each time to close Firefox. I don't do that anymore, and I stay logged in with NGA on Firefox.
