I noticed these spots on my aloe vera plant two days ago. They appear in 3 places on the plant, all in the photo. Each is in the same pattern, darker spots on the inside of a circle lighter brown spots. The green stem is lightened in the area around the spots. I am curious about the cause of these spots, what they mean, and how to treat the plant to avoid them in the future. Thank you!

Are the small brown spots slightly raised and do they scrape off easily with your fingernail? If so then, they are scale insects.

Yes, they are, thank you! Should I be concerned/try to remove them?

Yes. Wipe them away with a solution of diluted rubbing alcohol. Check crevices where the leaves join to make sure none are in there hiding.
