New to forum..not sure what I am doing or where to post..should I post a Calathea question in the houseplants/ Calathea section?

The Calathea plant I am caring for has browning and folding leaves. I think I am doing everything I think I should be. I mist every day, and water very seldom. My plant water meter almost always says moist/ wet..emphasis wet..Seldom water the plant but mist it daily. It is in direct sun, warm bedroom. Browning leaves and today noticed a leaf which is yellow.see photo.have not fertilized yet, since gift given of plant 4 months ago.

Thank you

Protect your Calathea from the rays of the sun falling directly on the leaves.

Your plant will absorb water through its roots, not its leaves, Misting does no harm but it is not an effective way to water it or to raise the humidity.

Moisture meters are notoriously inaccurate. Press your finger into the soil and when it feels just barely damp add enough water until a bit runs through the drain holes. There is no reason to fertilize it at this time.

Trim off the discolored leaves as they will not recover.

Why is leaf yellow (see white pointer) photo below

And why are leaves rolling over (see red pointers)

Many many thanks in advance.

Those leaf symptoms can be caused by direct sunlight or root damage caused by improper watering. Trim off the discolored portions of the leaves and then move it to proper light and get the watering under control to prevent future damage.

@Unplant, welcome! When you say "I water very seldom", could you give it in days? How seldom is that?
Your plant is in a warm room and in direct sun, and these are not the ideal conditions for a Calathea, which is a cool lovin' plant, not cold, but cool conditions, not excess heat, nor sunlight getting on her leaves. So, if you have it in a warm and sunny place, I believe the curling of the leaves were the plant's try to retain some moisture.
In some Native languages the term for plants translates to "those who take care of us."

Hi Faridat

Well, it is facing westward, so gets afternoon sun ..not exactly directly, it is on a dresser 6 feet from a window. I was thinking that the leaves may be curling to retain some moisture, so I have been misting the stems, soil and leaves every day. But have not watered deeply for a week or so.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I suggest moving it a bit closer to the window. Not so close that the rays of the sun fall directly on the foliage, but just outside of that range.

Misting is not a good substitute for watering and it does almost nothing as far as raising humidity. It absorbs water through its roots, not its leaves. It is important to water thoroughly - until some water runs through the drain holes - each time you water. Partial (shallow) watering can create mineral hot spots around the roots that can then cause leaf burn.
