This volunteer appeared in a pot in my sister's house (also in 9a coastal Texas). I thought it looked a bit like red Malabar spinach, but the leaves look thicker and more colorfully veined than that does in most photos I see. Any ideas? Thanks.

It looks like Malabar Spinach - the red form.

My eyesight is not the greatest but I'm sure someone will recognize that pretty plant before long and be able to give an exact ID. My first thought was possibly a variety of Smartweed (Polygonum) or Japanese Knotweed (Reynoutria japonica)

Whatever it is, please do not eat it unless and until you get an ID from someone local.
