Found in Ramap Reservation - NJ
seeds that fly in the wind look similar to elm seeds but much smaller, and they come out of a nut shape skin

Hard to see detail on the pictures (is it windy there?).. but Paulownia seed pod comes to my mind..

Agree with tofitropic.

Paulownia tomentosa...Empress tree.
In many places in USA it is concidered to be an invasive sp.

I also agree, Empress Tree (Paulownia tomentosa) They produce beautiful pink to lavender blooms in the spring.

Yes, I see in the caption of csandt's photo that it is Longwood Gardens. I've seen some gorgeous photos of those gardens and chatted with a few who've had the opportunity to visit there. It's a place I'd like to spend time strolling some day!
