Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in the St. Augustine area?

I always use Airbnb.com , Ken. It is a better value than a hotel and a quick look this morning shows many houses and apartments available. 2 beds , 2 bath in desirable neighborhood for around $100- $125 a night.

There are some fabulous old inns downtown, they are not inexpensive but the ambiance is worth it, especially for any special occasion. This is one that used to be wonderful but we have not been there in years. http://www.stfrancisinn.com The building dates to the 1700's.

Old St. Augustine is special during the holiday season, lights everywhere! One of our sons lives directly above St. A in Ponte Vedra Beach so we get that way often. It is about 20 miles of nothing but state park in between the two with no traffic on A1A. There is a nice Mariott and a Hilton in PVB. .

I would steer clear of any of the hotels along the beach south of St. A, we have tried a few and were not impressed. Like Lindsay mentioned, there are often some great B & B's there. Air B&B or VRBO
