Daylily Members - I have a question and I'd like YOUR opinion. I've already sent off an email to Jon about this to get his opinion and recommendation.

I know some daylily owners don't have the featured cultivar, but they do have seedlings from the plant. Should we give an acorn tip to a member if they post photos of the children of the featured plant. I know it is not an evaluation per se of the featured cultivar, but for those of you interested in hybridizing, the photos could be helpful and interesting.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on this?

I saw those that Sue has been posting. I love that sort of thing. It is definitely more of a hybridizer point of interest or of those buying seeds off the LA than it is for a grower only. Still I think it's useful information in association with the listed plants and, therefore, pertinent information to that plant. Really, I'm not geared to post things to obtain acorns and I doubt that a lot of postings are made with that in mind. So I think you'd be alright on giving acorns or not. However, just so she knows - @petruske I've really been enjoying and appreciate the cross results you have posted using a daylily of the day Hurray! . Maybe I should give her some of my acorns!

Jon is giving her acorns for her cultivar children posts, so I will too.

Donald - I agree with you!

I also find her posts interesting and useful concerning parenting genes of cultivars. So will join Jon in giving acorns for such information!

I'm glad to hear you enjoy seeing the seedlings. I posted them because I like seeing seedling blooms from others. It's interesting to see what can come from certain crosses. Hope to see more post their seedlings in the DL of the Day. May encourage (or discourage) others to use the DL for crossing. For example the seedlings from Pumpkin Prince x Unknown, in my case, shows that Pumpkin Prince seems to have fairly dominant traits. So if that's something your going for, maybe give it a try in your pollination program. Because I am new to this pollination thing, I know I made some crosses that more experienced growers would have never done. But that's good to see too. I'm sure we all have our good, bad, and ugly. To "acorn" or not to "acorn" makes no difference, however, I'd like to see others. But...thanks for the acorns that I did get Hurray!

I love the idea of adding seedling images of the Daylily of the Day. Within my small growing experience, I'm sometimes astonished by how different a group of seedlings can be. To me, it will give an extra piece of info to me about making the same cross, a similar cross, or running in a different direction, 😂.

I do try to research offspring when considering which crosses I plan to make, so having seedling photos embedded with the name of the daylily in the thread will make them easy to find.

When I have more down time after the holidays, I plan to go update my DOTD threads from this past summer.

I just wish that people who suggest a plant for daylily of the day would actually have experience growing the plant so they can make an evaluation.

I would find it useful seeing the seedlings, especially as in most cases I don't have access to the parent plant and won't have for however long the daylily import ban to Europe lasts. I can buy seeds from L.A. though so seeing seedlings would be particularly interesting to me (I don't expect you to do it just for the benefit of one person though so won't be upset if others don't want it--maybe put it in a separate post called "daylily of the day --child plants" or similar)?

I appreciate everyone's input. I believe the right place for them is on the Daylily of the Day thread. I think it is of great interest to gardeners who are hybridizing. I am always fascinated by children plants, especially daylilies!

I, too, would welcome photos of seedlings. It is so interesting to see what comes of various crosses!
