Does anyone grow these two irises? Please help me decide which one to get! Although they are sibs, does one outperform the other? Which one has better colors and better form? Which one do you like better? THanks.

Karen ~ Which one do you like better? I do not have personal experience with either, so I will defer to a member that may grow either or both of them.

I have to go back and read emails but I believe Keith said Painted Shadows was tougher to get pollen from or to make a pod parent. Anywho that's all I got. If you email Keith during the "off season", if ever one he'd probably would give a summarized performance report on each.

Good luck!
Gimme it and I'll grow it!

Karen, do you prefer pastel colors or more dramatic colorways? Dancing Days is the former, Painted Shadows is the latter. Painted Shadows is also slightly taller and has a later bloom season. Looks like is also has a bit more ruffling than Dancing Days. I don't grow either, but, based on the description and images, I would prefer Painted Shadows. Just my opinion. Smiling

I have them both. I haven't seen Painted Shadows bloom yet, as it's stalks got destroyed last summer in a hale storm. They are both good growers, so make your decision on the one you like best. Smiling Or just get them both! Whistling

Very helpful, Tom! Big Grin

Maybe think about what other colours you have and want your new iris to match?

I agree with Lovemyhouse. I don't have either, but if I had to choose, I'd go for the taller bolder color and ruffles. I Lovey dubby ruffled irises. nodding

Thanks everyone for your input. Lilli, now that you put them both side by side, the decision is harder to make. Painted Shadows colors are certainly dramatic and bold but the pastel combo of Dancing Days is nice too. I may have to take up Tom's suggestion and get both??? I have splurged too much on peonies and daylilies, my iris budget is definitely shortchanged! Let's see what Santa Claus has in store for me this Christmas. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

My apologies! Whistling

At least there is only one bad choice here; not to get any of them! Big Grin

I would be horrible at telling you which one to choose because I love bold colors, but I also love the blue purple w/yellow combination. Especially when there is a blush of the blue up the standards. So I would have to vote with the get them both group.

I also have both, and Dancing Days seems to be the better grower of the two, at least for me. The two varieties are only a few feet apart in the row in which they reside. More increase and larger fans on Dancing Days at least for the time being. Both are new for 2017 for me, so I can't give any detailed info on actual bloom performance

Daphne, for a plant addict like me, that cannot be more true. Smiling Smiling With so many beautiful choices out there, it is getting so much harder to select and pass on many of them.

Speaking of myself strictly -- I looove agonizing over which iris to get. Catalog time is a great period of angst, longing, wishing, lusting, and desiring for me. Such exquisite mental torture for me!!! If I had enough funds id slash the Gordian Knot of difficulty and get all I that interest me, but then I merely set myself up for the inevitable Pot Ghetto aftermath ...... lol

I can't describe it any better! Exquisite mental torture is exactly it! And then when they bloom, I don't remember pretty much of anything negative except why I did not plant more. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!
