I think ghost plant may be forming an inflorescence.

Portulaca umbraticola (ornamental purslane) cutting from a few weeks ago. Looks rooted, perked up, and making a cute little bloom. It's only expected to survive. This is a nice bonus!

That's a beautiful Truncata, Tiffany! They put on a really impressive show. I only have one in bloom right now.

They're all so beautiful! I've never tried succulents before recently. I swiped some cuttings from a local business landscape a couple weeks ago of aptenia, and the cuttings even started to bloom! It's used as a ground cover here in San Jose, CA, and I just think it's such an amazing plant. I grabbed a few cuttings and just stuck them in some moist soil and they seem to be surviving and even thriving, even though the cuttings still look somewhat pitiful. I may have a new addiction Smiling

I've noticed a lot of succulents are blooming around my neighborhood, where I walk my dog. I don't know how to identify them, but they're so interesting.

Zuni, cut the bloom stalks off your cuttings. They are stealing stored energy needed to grow roots. Until your new little plants have roots, the only food they have is what is stored in the stems and leaves. There is no photosynthesizing going on yet.

TYVM, Sue! Many succulents will continue blooming without noticeable interruption while taking root. I don't have an anecdote about Aptenia in particular.

Some updates.

Never seen one of these with a bifurcated head, assuming this is the start of an inflo.

Yes, I know you are absolutely right. Since they were an experiment, though, and there are a ton of cuttings in the pot, I decided to just enjoy a couple blooms anyway.

But, yes, you are right that when rooting a cutting, you should cut off any blooms so the energy goes into the roots.

I know I should remove the blooms, but they just make me happy. I'm going to try and collect the seeds, too.

Tiffany, you have some beauties. Thanks for reminding me what the name of this one is.

"Peperomia ferreyrae ' It has a number of inflorescences, I keep thinking they might open flowers, but they don't seemed to.

Susan, Are you sure you didn't miss the flowers and are looking at seedpods?

That's what I was wondering! I've done the same thing on occasion. It's easy to get busy and miss it when plants bloom.

I sure haven't seen as blooms, but I could have missed them. Will have to try finding a photo of them to see what they look like.
