I think your mystery plant may be Burdock, not sure whether it's lesser or greater. (Arctium major/minor)

sure looks like it Janine, but i don't have any images of the flower
i will have to wait for the blooms to open and show a new image
i have cut it back every year and google shows it gets to be a monster
