.......I saw a post some time and it had @thepersonsname to say thankyou.

How do you make that happen? Hover over their avatar or ....?

If it's for a landscape photo rather than inside a forum, would you find one of their recent posts and do it there?

Tree mails probably not so appropriate for this??? Haven't ventured into tree-mails yet.

Thank You!

If somebody sends you an acorn tip, you can send a thank you by tree-mail if you want. You can click on their avatar, or click on the person's name in the system message announcing the acorn tip, and you'll be taken to their profile, where the first action listed is to send them a tree-mail. If any part of that process is unclear, let me know. I just sent you a tree-mail to get the ball rolling.

These little encounters can be a great way to get to know others better. If anybody thanks me for acorns (which I would view as completely optional) then I try to let them know what it was about the picture or post that was inspiring. To go full circle, as it were.

I, too, view the 'thank you' as optional. My intent when tipping an acorn is to just say this is a gorgeous photo, or useful post, more worthy than a thumbs-up. I also don't use my acorns much, so try to not have them accumulate.

I agree
You can do nothing, or you can post a public thankyou using the @ feature or send a TreeMail. And @Baja_Costero is totally correct. A simple thank you message in Treemail may possibly lead to some interesting conversations and may develop into a lovely friendship, talking about all kinds of things.

well this is a test run greene; I have worked over tree-mail since starting this thread, so that's good; but to get the @ happening??? inside of a public post?

I type @ and then go press on your name beside your photo icon; but that just takes me to your page when I preview the post I'm writing; it doesn't put the link in for me,, after the @.

Obviously I'm not working it properly. I need more tips! Smiling

I know it's got to be simple ---- Sighing!

That @ sign is for summoning people to a thread. It's a way of saying come check this out. The recipient gets a system message saying their name has been tagged in a thread. For example, if I type that symbol and then spell your name like this

@carolem

(one word, no spaces) that tells you hey Carole, something happening here! We need your expert advice about Australian bird species. Or whatever.

I do know what you mean Carolem. I found a little cheat. Not really convenient but it does work. I put in the @ and then click on the persons name, which takes me to their page. Once on their page, you are able to copy their name and then paste. Works ok, as I get paranoid I will misspell someones name. lol Hope that is what you are looking for.

It's also fine in my humble opinion to send a short little thank you treemail.

@lauriebasler thanks Laurie for your updates; yes I've been happy being able to respond this way, or with acorn gifts, I do send a tree-mail. Just when new to this site it takes a while to get to know your way around. Thank You! Smiling

@lauriebasler, a faster way to tag some one; type your @ and then copy and paste the user name directly from the post. No need to click on the name and go to their profile page and then come back to paste, too many steps! nodding

Well, I guess I am a clutz, but It won't copy for me on the thread. I know it should, I am just not able to make it happen. Carolem said she was having the same issue. But Thank you. I will try it again now,. It really is more steps than I love, but it's faster than me checking spelling over and over he he.

@Calif_Sue and @lauriebasler back in December I hadn't been sure how to go about that action, but then everyone's clues here led me the way.

I find Laurie by mousing through the name from right to left carefully (just the word, try not to hover into the avatar) to highlight, and then copy it, paste into your message with the @ up front.

As always, new things just take several times over to get it happening and then you're in with a chance Smiling

Yes, Carole. Right to left always works well to copy clickable names without activating the click. Smiling
