"The Universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice. It speaks in the language of hope; It speaks in the language of trust; It speaks in the language of strength, and the language of compassion. It is the language of the heart and the language of the soul. But always, it is the same voice. It is the voice of our ancestors, speaking through us, And the voice of our inheritors, waiting to be born. It is the small, still voice that says: We are one. No matter the blood; No matter the skin; No matter the world; No matter the star; We are one. No matter the pain; No matter the darkness; No matter the loss; No matter the fear; We are one. Here, gathered together in common cause. we agree to recognize this singular truth, and this singular rule: That we must be kind to one another, because each voice enriches us and ennobles us, and each voice lost diminishes us. We are the voice of the Universe, the soul of creation, the fire that will light the way to a better future. We are one."

Good visual! We leave the tree on the deck in front of the french doors. Jolly, gets rained on, no mess in the house. I put up lights and bird ornaments (bread cutouts, fruit, seeds, popcorn). This year's will be a live seedling maybe 3' high, so will sit on a bucket. My kids are grown and I just don't like all the hooplah anymore. Couple Santa guys on the mantle, red candles, fresh greens, and done!
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

If you walk into my house you'd never know it was Christmas anything. As you said, just getting too old.

If one's tree is that dry , watering will not solve the problem.
If one has a live tree, I cannot see how anyone would not keep watering it, although I can see happening if one cannot be around for some reason and lets some one else take care of it. Others doing that for you is scary which is my situation so this year I will have some one more reliable do it.
If you have fake tree the second picture cannot be prevented.
When my trees stop being soft, they come down -- usually.

I still put up a tree and some lights in the porch, usually leaving it up till Orthodox Christmas.
Sadly my record player needs fixing and I could not get back to get it fixed so no Christmas records this year.
Christmas is still my high point of a year and as long as I have living people to make it Jolly I will celebrate.
With the health of too many of my relatives and friends, I may have more years than I want to sit around doing nothing.

It's talking about cut trees. All the stands have a reservoir for water. I remember when I was a little girl, my mother topping off the reservoir for our Christmas trees every morning after breakfast.

I have, or had three of the newer green plastic ones; I also have one of the little metal ones that I cannot believe we used for years as they hold ounces of water verses a gallon for the green ones.
Last year I got a smaller tree with a smaller trunk. I looked and looked and looked for the smaller green ones I had bought just in the past three years.
No where in sight, Grumbling therefore; I had to use the big green one that we had used for decades.
I had to take one bys and two by twos to take up the slack between the trunk and the screw-rods that hold it in place.
I finally got it secured after resetting it twice and in a way it was better that way as some of the pieces of wood I used ran up the trunk a bit giving more support. Thumbs up
I can go in the basement now and sitting in plain sight is one of the new small ones I could not find last year.
Do not remember if I found it while looking for something else or if it just magically appeared. D'Oh!
I just know some day I will be looking for something and the third one will fall out of the air and whack me in the head. Sighing!
--
As a side note, I am sure I wrote this once before but we (dad) got the big green one one year when he bought a tree larger than the bay window we put it in . When it would not ft, he asks me why I bought that damned big tree and I simply said, you picked it out.
The trunk was so large we needed a tree stand capable of holding it. As that was decades ago, I will give thumbs up to the quality of that stand.

One can avoid fire hazards by purchasing a living tree...with rootball. Keep it watered as needed, then plant outside. In areas of heavy freezes, it's a good idea to dig the hole ahead of time and keep the hole full of leaves and cover with a tarp until it's time to plant the tree outside. But be warned; some of these living Christmas trees can grow HUGE once planted in the yard. Rolling on the floor laughing

I avoid killing a tree for the holiday. I generally prune a few branches from an evergreen tree, place the branches into a large vase (with water), and decorate sparingly. We call it our 'Christmas Branch'.

I first learned of a 'Christmas Branch' from a very artistic friend. His apartment was crammed with artwork and antique furniture. He reserved the hall table for the Christmas Branch. It was the first thing that guests saw and the aroma of pine was lovely. Very little cleanup as the branch was fresh cut.

That is a great idea for people who hate decorating, or have tiny spaces and not much room.

Went home this weekend to check on all things, including Christmas Tree.
Still taking water. I got a free jar of that stuff that is supposed help cut real trees at the hometown waste disposal, paint etc. site and thought, well , free can not beat the price.
Now it could just be a tough tree but I do think that stuff helped.
Now I have to decide how long before I take it down. I have left them till Valentines before and that may be what I do this year.
