Cheryl, The Cordyline berries containing the seeds will not ripen until next summer. No need to cover to catch the seed, you can pick them as they ripen. When ripe they will plump and soften and most turn a cherry red. You can then squeeze the pulp with the seeds out on a coffee filter and let air dry a few days and plant.

Note- After seed germinates the young plants will be green. Colors will start to appear slowly sometimes taking 3 years or more to fully see color potential.

Cheryl, If your summer is wet you may find the seed sprouting out of the ripe fruit.

Oh Wow! We often have wet spring and summer showers. Definitely high humidity. It will be interesting to see how this proceeds. Thumbs up Do you plant them as is when that happens?
