I would say that those are two of the most thoughtful gifts a lily lover could get. Lucky you!

What a sweet little tike giving you a meaningful, one of a kind gift. Those are the type of gifts I love best.

That's simply fantastic, Dave! Few gifts can actually mean that much, in so many ways. And you and your wife are raising a good, thoughtful kid, too!

I'd say you were a lucky guy, Dave, but I doubt luck has much to do with it. You've created lots of good.

Oh, almost forgot! I didn't receive anything lily-related ...except for hundreds of lily blooms of course, many grown from seed shared with me by folk here and around the world... Yay! Can't beat the southern hemisphere! And generous lily growers.

But, umm.. oh yes, inspired by Rick's creations I did make my own calendar this year to give to others as a gift, and February was a lily:



Aiming for 12 months of lilium next year!

Yes... Miss Februay is a seedling otherwise known to me as Miss "Kinky".

I like the idea of a lily calender for all 12 months!

Getting back to the first gifts of this thread, it's always the unexpected and creatively original ones that are best.

They reminded me of a gift I receive about 25 years ago from an old mentor (Lew), now long deceased. It still hangs on my wall, so I never forget her.



I was tickled pink when I showed her what I had written (in long-hand) and she asked me for a copy. This was back when computers were not such a common thing to have and I had no idea that she was planning to have her daughter print it up all nice looking.

What a beautiful gift and sublime piece of writing!
