Im a bit late in joining this thread, but just wanted to say -- with all respect intended.
..... I hope you stick with it. The glory and beauty of iris are worth it, even if you have to scale back your plans at some point or by necessity. After 45 years of growing iris, I have experienced disasters and resurrections similar to yours several times over -- and through it all I discovered that my love for all things iris was deeply rooted and genuine, and strong enough to withstand adversity. Kinda sounds like a good marriage -- lol
....have I been Discouraged?, ---- oooh yeah!!!
....tempted to give up?, ---- many times!!!
....will I keep going, ---- yep for sure!!!
and why???
Well for one thing:
.... your seedlings are as good as if not better (at least flower form wise) as any currently on the market or in the seedling stage, and trust me -- I've seen lots of potential candidates in many peoples sdlng patches, both for this year and beyond. Yours are better than the vast majority ive seen. That would be a powerful incentive to forge on, in and of itself.
So please take heart -- there are those of us who've weathered similar storms, and still perservere. I trust 2018 will be all the rainbow in the iris garden

Very nicely said Timothy. I agree that Brad's seedlings are absolutely beautiful and should be marketed (when he's ready). I think many of us will be waiting in line to purchase them.

I think Brad's seedlings should be registered and introduced so that they will live on many, many years from now. Although they are certainly lovely enough to be passed around as a NoID they deserve a name and Brad deserves the high praise and respect for developing something that puts beauty and joy in the world forevermore. Smiling

I have only met one of the hybridizers that have created the irises that grow in my garden but i never hesitate to read about them when i get a chance. I am grateful for their hard work and dedication and the joy they added to my life and the lives of others. I think we should have a national Hybridizers Day!

Barbara ~ Is it back to normal yet?

Where do you go to get a National Iris Hybridizer Day registered?

Evelyn, yes, I posted my avatar issue on the site talk forum and nobody ever heard of this before. That night my iris avatar was back, but I didn't do anything to fix it. Shrug!

Here is another group that made the winter some of these are growing really well hopefully get a good look at all of them in the spring.. What do you guys think would you grow them in your garden ?

13-6 (Kiss of Passion X Brouhaha) This one was really nice in 2015 good color impact and stems really like it.

13-64 ( Ride The Waves X Just Witchery) My favorite Blue Smiling looking forward to it especially... hopefully has some buds next year after getting established Smiling

13-95 ( Enjoyment X Electric Candy) Opens with a extremely bright yellow color and after a few days fades in color to more of a lemon yellow, good growth on it and nice stems like Momma..

13-24 C (Jealous Guy X Iconic) undecided on this one it bloomed last year for the 1st time and I liked it but not sure if color is unique enough, love the parents though so if it has good qualities will use it for breeding next year.
Thumb of 2018-01-03/ARUBA1334/c17072 Thumb of 2018-01-03/ARUBA1334/df1a76

12-15 (Copper Clouds X Brilliant Idea) This is another that bloomed last year and it showed green marks on standards and turquoise on the falls but unsure what to make of it wondering if it wasn't a fluke or weather related Shrug! if the marks are there again in the spring I'll get excited without them it will be tossed.

13-10 (Comes The Dawn X Superhero) all around good plant and color impact

I was able to save about 10 different seedlings from the field out of this cross it has been very interesting for colors and patterns the picture is really interesting because it has variegated foliage most of the time when I see yellowing foliage I think it's sickly but not the case here it is in 3 different clumps in the yard and all display it so looking forward to the flower hopefully something unique Smiling
Thumb of 2018-01-03/ARUBA1334/549fbc

12-40(Accessible X Decadence) The bright Beards catch your eye in the garden with this one Smiling

Brad ~ They are all beautiful. I especially am attracted to 13-10 (Comes The Dawn X Superhero).

It will be interesting to see the flowers on the one with the variegated foliage.

Thanks everybody for commenting if you were able to pick only 1 of the 12-12 cross which one would you choose?

Tom..: It looks good and like it's growing well safe to say it is midwest hardy and it survived the Hail storm and bloomed for you I'm impressed now Smiling glad you liked it we will have to compare next year and see what a 2 year clump looks like hopefully has plenty of buds and a stem so far (B) has looked the best for all around qualities but A is the winner for uniqueness.

Debra..12-12 C got a lot of compliments during the convention it had just started to open and the black in the falls really pops.

Timothy.. Thank you for the kind words and encouragement, our family has been growing these for generations and as long as I am able.. there will always be Iris growing in my yard Smiling But growing and taking care of them on the scale I have done over the past 2 years was tough Smiling you certainly learn how hard commercial farming can be when you have acres of them to take care of and seasons like I did. It is much more enjoyable for me on a smaller scale so I decided to grow more of my own seedlings then commercial plants. It is a lot of fun to come out and find a new seedling blooming for the 1st time as you know and I really enjoy that part of it. Smiling I'm Hoping we both have that Rainbow in the garden.

Bonnie.. Thank You !! I need to get through a few winter's without setting more record's for losses especially with a national convention in town D'Oh! Grumbling I do think that will happen with time and I'll need your help with descriptions and names you are awesome at that Smiling

Brad, sticking with 12-12C as my first choice of that group. Lovey dubby

I talked with Judy Schneider of The Shady Spot right after the convention. She was at your place and, from what she said, everyone understood the circumstances. And, remember, these were/are Iris folk--so when it comes to nature's callous disregard for human effort? They get it. Smiling
