I'm considering adding mycorrhizal fungi to some of my potted plants. Kind of an experiment to see if there's a positive effect on plants that live in pots full time. I understand that there are two basic types but then the question comes in about different strains for specific plants. Is there one specific type that is a better all-purpose strain? I currently use Happy Frog potting soil but sometimes mix it with ProMix of some sort. Most of my potted plants are fertilized about once a year with a slow-release organic type of fertilizer. I don't use water-soluble fertilizers regularly except for the rare fish or seaweed emulsion. Any info is appreciated.

I had good luck using Mykos product in my containers growing morning glories. I also used home grown worm castings. It's important to have all this soil biology for happy pest-resistant plants, in my opinion.

Joseph - thanks for the response! I've seen that brand while searching. Would you know if shelf life is an issue when purchasing?

I bought it through Amazon.com. I don't remember the exact use by date. I will check tonight if you'd like? I still have quite a bit of it left so will be using it again this year.

Joseph - yes! it would be good to know if there's a use-by date related to shelf-life. I've read that while some of the mycorrhizae may die off in storage or high heat, spores are left behind that can regrow with adequate soil nutrients. Thanks!

Unfortunately I couldn't find an expiration date. I was looking at the questions posed in Amazon.com for the Mykos product and many say if kept dry and cool the product should remain viable for 2 years, maybe longer. I guess you can always return it if you're not happy.

@Gerris2
Where did you purchase your Mykes? Was considering the MykePro Greenhouse G but having a hard time finding a source. Thanks.

There is a Myke product so I can see how the search would not not have been productive.

It was frustrating because Mykes is a Canadian company, catering more to landscape/greenhouse folks. The Mykos is on the way.

Get fox farms Microbrew, it has that largest arrangement of endo and ecto mycorrhizae as well as a broad spectrum of microbes for the cheapest price.

Or try TNCMycoMax from England, Nigel is the fellow to talk to there, he's very quick to reply and will work with you to answer all your questions.

Thanks for the tip! Didn't think of Fox Farms as a source. I've already ordered the Mycos so it will be a starting point.
