Hi there! I planted some chard starters in the fall along with several other plants like kale, broccoli, and brussel sprouts. All the other plants are doing great, but the chard looks terrible! It looks almost like it's being burned โ€“ย or charred ;) โ€“ but I don't think it's getting THAT much sun.

Any help would be so appreciated!

It looks like powdery mildew. Chard is very susceptable if nights are damp and cool.

Plant it in the spring when the weather is warmer.

Juliana : Hi ๐Ÿ˜Ž
I live in central valley, cool, moist nites in winter. Never had mildew, but it's possible.
It looks more like spider mites, or aphids.
For any of the three. Take, One tablespoon of regular Dawn dish soap, to one gallon water, in a spray bottle, and spray every 2 or 3 days, on top and under leaves . For 10 to 15 days. You don't have to wash it off.

First ! Cut all those damaged leaves off. Lower new leaves, look good, and top left plant looks fine. Butt, bugs or mildew, is probably allready, spread to them. So spray everything. ๐Ÿ‘

This is so helpful, thank you! I'll definitely clean them up, and spray the leaves. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll just plan on planting chard only in the Spring. Thank you!

Juliana :
I guess it's time for !!! " Super Philip's, bugs : #102 class " ๐Ÿ˜€
#1. Hold a white piece of paper flat under leaf. Tap top of leaf a few times. Keep paper flat , and, look very closely at paper. If you see tiny spects moving around, thats spider mites. Use Insecticidal Soap, for best results.

#2. Cut a leaf off. Do you see little bugs, with legs, some with wings ? That's probably aphids. Use Soapy water.

#3. Does the white wash off ? That's mildew. All you need is a hose with a sprayer nozzle on it. Every , early morning , spray plants , give them good bath. Mildew gone, in a few/several days.

#4. Most !๐Ÿ˜ฎ! Important. Clean-up the dead and infected leaves ! ๐Ÿ‘

You can eat the green leaves !!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ??? Just soak and wash.
HAY NOW ! A few bugs ain't gonna hurt you all. Who doesent like a little protein, with there veges ?
I'm seriously serious !!! Big Grin I tip my hat to you.

There's also a bug guide in the forums section. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ๐Ÿ‘
