How many seeds should I be planting per container? I have 5 gallon bucket containers. I don't expect a lot of harvest from these buckets either, but how much harvest do you get when you use 5 gallon buckets?

What are you thinking of growing ?
I had peppers in 5 gallon containers last season, and they did well. Only one pepper plant to a container. And started the plants indoors.

The number of seeds will depend on what you want to grow, and the size of the mature plants.

How many peppers did you get from the one plant?

I'm still waiting for some seeds in the mail, but what I currently have set on my desk are carrots, tomatoes, sugar snap peas, cucumbers, dutch beets, spinach, corn, butter crunch, lemon basil, onions, wheat grass, okra, passion fruit, and jalapeƱos. I also have some berries set aside and some garlic and potato cuts, but I plan on getting a wider containers for those next month if I'm able to. I was to go through my pepper and tomato seeds again later today to see if there's any others i'd like to grow.

Keep in mind that I am growing way north of you !
My best harvest of peppers for one plant was 11 peppers----from an Italian Sweet pepper plant. The season is short here.

Try to find a Garden Salsa pepper. I use the plants instead of seed. They have a great flavor profile with a slight sweetness then gradually the heat comes on. I have gotten as many as 300 peppers per plant! Mix some Black Kow composted manure in with your potting soil for each bucket.

Our stores haven't put out the soils yet. When I went a few days ago, it was completely empty. They had some pallets out, but nothing was unpacked. I don't think I'll be able to get any pre-grown plants this month. But, when they put out the soil I will check to see if they have that Black Kow manure one. Thanks!

@RenaeC wow, the local Home Depot and Lowes and nurseries here have carried soil all winter. Wondering where you are now?

But, depending on how much you want to buy - you can buy soil online to be delivered to your home. I don't order large quantities now, but I have been buying bags of Black Gold from Walmart and even Staples where I can use my Staples Rewards. Weird that they have soil, I know LOL - but they do!

I'm in the valley. Fresno would be the closest city you would know of. They just put out the soil this week and their fruit trees are out today too. A lot of the hardware store is empty. They just put out some more seeds today too, but for the most part the shelves are pretty bare still. There's a few animal lawn decor, but only on 2 shelves.

See only 2 shelves full, but pretty much empty...

But, they have lots of seeds this year. I like Walmarts selection a tad bit more. They're more affordable and usually have onion sprouts and potato ones too that are in a little net baggy
