I realize to you Yankees that this is nothing, but for us here in the deep South, it's a major event! It's been snowing since 11 am and so far we've gotten a little over 5 inches. The neighborhood kids are going nuts!

"The Universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice. It speaks in the language of hope; It speaks in the language of trust; It speaks in the language of strength, and the language of compassion. It is the language of the heart and the language of the soul. But always, it is the same voice. It is the voice of our ancestors, speaking through us, And the voice of our inheritors, waiting to be born. It is the small, still voice that says: We are one. No matter the blood; No matter the skin; No matter the world; No matter the star; We are one. No matter the pain; No matter the darkness; No matter the loss; No matter the fear; We are one. Here, gathered together in common cause. we agree to recognize this singular truth, and this singular rule: That we must be kind to one another, because each voice enriches us and ennobles us, and each voice lost diminishes us. We are the voice of the Universe, the soul of creation, the fire that will light the way to a better future. We are one."

We're happy to share, Anne! I'd be happy to share my subzero temps too, if I could. Hilarious!

Lol .. no thanks! We haven't been out of the 30's in the daytime for going on 3 days now and for pretty much the next 4 days! It's been in the 20's and teens at night .. thankfully no power losses and the greenhouse heating system is working beautifully maintaining temps in the 50's. I really need to go check it but don't want to open the doors in 30° temps. The sun is suppose to come out tomorrow so if it heats up in there into the upper 60's I'll chance it.

Schools and most businesses will be closed tomorrow because what's on the ground won't melt all that much and what does melt will freeze again at night. We're just not prepared for this.

I'm sure it's a treat for local kids who so rarely see snow. They probably don't even own sleds???

Or shovels Whistling Hilarious!
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

The snow stopped falling Wednesday night and today, Friday, we still have tons of snow on the ground. The problem is that it's only getting into the upper 30's in the day time and back into the low 20's and teens at night which is making driving real exciting and terrifying at the same time! Thankfully I have experience driving on snow and ice as I lived in Indiana when I went to college so I've been able to get to the store. We just don't have the resources for this sort of thing and the town was essentially shut down yesterday. The really bad news is that the freezing temps will be around until Monday. I know I've probably lost some of my Zone 8 tropical perennials like Canna and Gingers but I'm hoping that the snow covering them will protect them from the continuous temps in the low 20's and upper teens we've been getting.

Even here, some of my plants will either be lost or die back to the roots.

We got just about a half inch of snow on Christmas Eve. Problem is, IT'S STILL HERE! It has been SO COLD, it hasn't melted. Nights have been single digits or below zero, highs in the teens Glare

The cannas should be ok. They've survived winters here unprotected and even after I got rid of them I still have some coming back every year.
