Possible I should direct this in another forum, but my question is really Salvia specific...

I received 2 sets of salvia seeds earlier this fall. I sowed them indoors and they have done remarkably well - a Salvia Coccinea 'Coral Nymph" and a Sky Blue that I assumed to be a Farinacea.

Good news - they are healthy and blooming. Interesting news - they are ALL a beautiful soft pink.

My assumption is that the person I got the seeds from just mismatched/mismarked the Sky Blue. However, is there any reason to think that Salvias are more or less likely to come true through seed?

Thanks,
Larry

My guess is the sender just mislabeled them.
Do the flowers look all the same or are the supposed Sky Blue a different shape? Do the leaves look the same? Can you post a picture? I've grown coral nymph from seeds and they have always come true.
I do know some of the perennials won't always be the same as the parent. Just my experience anyway. I'm sure other will chime in with their knowledge and experience.
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

Ok, Ronnie thanks. That's what I thought but I wasn't sure about anything Salvia-specific. The flowers are all the same and all Coral Nymph, so it undoubtedly was just a mistake.

Leaves the same, growth habit the same and the same flowers? If so it sounds as if the main thrust of your question is answered. However, as regards the following.................

Yes, there is. Salvia are rather promiscuous (Wendys Wish being a very popular plants that occured naturally in the garden of an Australian Salvia collector) and as such there can be cross pollination or reversion in Salvia seed. The Chinese Salvia are especially likely to cross pollinate.
