it resembles pilea of some sort - but I can find no pics with this type of corrugated leaves, except for Pilea 'Moon Valley'. but this one is quite different - very leathery.
you can see 2 spiky flowers in the pic too. the leaves are yellowish - but I think it's chlorosis, in other areas it was normal medium green.
I saw it in Fairchild conservatory in Miami FL, checked their plant lists - but can't find anything there either.

Interesting! Agree it's not a Pilea with that kind of bloom. Some type of Piper?

I wonder if it could be a variety of Fittonia?

Never mind, it isn't right for Fittonia. I keep going back to Pilea but the quilted leaves don't fit for any that I could find.

I found this page with Fairchild Gardens plant list but it's a very, very, very long list. Green Grin! You can check by botanical/scientific name or common name: http://www.fairchildgarden.org...

hm-m, piper? I looked at pics of pepper vines - they do have a somewhat similar flower, but leaves are more heart shaped and thinner in texture. this one is like plastic, very tough, about 2" long.
looking at images I found Piper magnificum - leaves are somewhat different, but the stem has similar ribs...so may be it's something close?
and def not a fittonia - inflo is very different. and leaves much smaller and thinner and fuzzy...

found this: Piper sp. thai..very similar leaf - beautiful variegation!
so hitting close...
http://www.siamgreenculture.co...
yah, I check the Fairchild list of course - but when you don't have Any idea what the plant might be...takes a lo-ong time to plug in name by name into image searches...to get closer...so I give-up, naturally ;)..
they Do list Piper sp. in conservatory - there's no map of beds, just some alpha codes..believe it or not I took time to load all Plants listed in RPH into excel spreadsheet - to reorder it by bed-code...so that once I recognize certain plants I can build my own bed-map...but ran out of steam...need to get generic large pics of all beds...another visit is pending :)...

You need to look for something that has alternate leaves.

Still researching. I have a question for everyone please. What do you think the purple leaf plant is in that photo? I had thought it was Ajuga but that is not included on the plant list for the Fairchild.

Here is the list of all living plants at Fairchild by botanical names:
http://www.fairchildgarden.org...

And by common name:
http://www.fairchildgarden.org...

My hope was to find Ajuga (or whatever it is), locate it on the site map, then look to see what is planted in the same bed.

Looks like they have about 8 Piper species, and 1 NOID.

as I said before it's in the conservatory (former RPH : rare plants house) that has no map of beds, just codes.
and there are some plants that are in sev beds and many are missing from the list: I tried to ID some before and they were definitely NOT on the list...
Pipers have alt leaves. i'm inclined to Piper :).
here's a pic I found very similar veining, some variegation again - very corrugated leaf.

as far as the burgundy plant next to it - the collection is of mostly Rare tropicals.
so whatever this plant is , it's not what you can easily get in nurseries.
however, they do have some stuff that is also grown outdoors in situ and it survives there year round as it's now rezoned 11a (like anthuriums, begonias, etc).
and some plants are not THAT rare, like they have Episcea 'Brown soldier'(inside only) and Pilea grandifolia (inside and outside).

here's a better pic of the leaves where you can see slight variegation and no chlorosis - doesn't it look like the other 2 that I found ? that grey shadowing like it's watercolor painted :)..so pretty!

i'll try to get a better pic next time of the burgundy groundcover - don't have a clear close-up of it, but it's blooming too: perhaps you can see whitish blobs near leaf petioles?
unfortunately many plants in conservatory are poorly marked or not marked at all, but this particular one is in sev places, so I'll try to look for a label.
it resembles Pellionia of some sort

When you say 'next time' do you mean you will be visiting the Fairchild again? Why not just take the photo with you and ask someone to identify the plant while you are there?

And yes, Pellionia is the closest so far. Just have to narrow down which one! Thumbs up

sorry for bombardment :)))
so I searched for 'terrarium plants' Piper
and pulled this one on ebay marked as
Piper Marsupiiferum
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Piper...
and it says it's from Equador. but there's not much about it anywhere..
the leaf however is round like on Peperomia and the seller 'southern oak aquatics'
says that they got it marked as Peperomia but think it's a Piper
I came across them before looking for rex begonias which are labeled accurately.

why not ask smbody there? a-ha-ha..:))) a few times that I asked volunteer attendants about plants I got either a very generic answer like - it's a bromeliad :)) or it's an aroid :)) or even I don't know about plants here...
so attendants are seriously clueless :)) for the most part!
I mean i'm not that obsessed to go searching for a very busy horticulturist - they are very seriously understuffed now after Irma - lots of damages .
once in Longwood conservatory I asked about a plant and after half-an-hour a horticulturist was found - and he didn't know either - just a generic guess 'it's a philo!'...gee-wiz...I knew that already....:)))
it's much more hopeful to ask here! Hilarious!

Peperomia is in the Piperaceae family, but they are separate genera.
