Tabebuias are really beautiful in the spring but the flowers soon fall and make a mess. The other problem is that it doesn't take much to make large branches break and crash to the ground. Shallow roots mean the trees often tilt from strong winds. I would rather have them in the back of a yard than in the median of a boulevard.

Your Tabebuia is gorgeous, what a show stopper.

Is Strobilanthes Hamiltonia a common plant in S. FL? A friend here has two that froze to the ground but they are coming back from the roots. No one around here had ever seen them before. Hers are striking, 4', shrubs.

I haven't seen Strobilanthes hamiltoniana plants in the Tampa area. I think the common name is Chinese rain bell or something like that. You might find them at Logee's.

Thanks Jim, interesting that so few know this plant. We are going to try and propagate it later this spring.

I got this plant 2 years ago from a neighbor who was moving. I have no idea what it is, but I LOVE these little star-burst flowers in it's first bloom since I've had it.

Right, I have a different Rhipsalis, that has similar flowers. Your alien is Tillandsia bulbosa, and I'll bet we both got them at one of the Tropiflora sales last year. Mine is blooming too.

Looks like I will not grow anything tomorrow. Smiling It is snowing pretty good right now. View from kitchen window towards the cage.

Temps are supposed to hit 70 F on Wednesday, so this snow will not hang around too long.

I'm with both of you Carol and Jim...in the 'Spring has sprung' files....I found 3 Bletilla rising from the ashes of our frosty week , yesterday while I pulled a few weeds. My black Elephant Ear bulb is mush though ...but I saw a new growth coming up from the edge of the Bamboo Orchid so it's not ALL doom and gloom.

It's been close to 80 here the past few days, I am starting to move begonias out but will hold off on the orchids until after the full moon next month.

Lindsey, don't toss the black EE yet, there are often smaller offsets lower in the soil that will emerge.
Crossing Fingers!

Ursula, thanks for posting the wintry scene, I was reminded again this year of how pretty snow is - from a distance.

Beautiful and at least the road is clear. Be careful with the shoveling though.

Lots of red going on at my house this week. The Loropetalum is, I believe, 'Ever Red' and the Camellia is a NOID. The loro is much redder, more fire engine red, than shows in the photo.

Much redder than my loropetalum which is a wimpy pink when compared to yours.

Thank You! I have wimpy pink ones too and when I saw this red one at a nursery in St. Augustine last year I grabbed it. It is staying in a pot so if we move it is coming along to the new home.
Speaking of the pink ones, they have turned out to be real thugs, self seeding all over the place.
