Nice Sherry! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Sherry, I used 6 gas bombs on that gopher and it still kept coming back. So I tried something I'm completely against...poison, or as you called it...revenge medicine. That gopher buried that hole and pushed most of the medicine to the top of the mound. That seriously made me worry that some birds might have eaten some. Sad So I ordered some "cinch" traps and I haven't looked back. I caught that gopher the first night in using them. I will never openly use poison again.

Rob, that gopher damage was brutal. I'm glad the cinch traps worked for you.

Sherry, that story was too funny!

Oh Rob. That is heartbreaking to see! Glad the traps are working for you. I've lost several hundred bulbs and a bunch of daylilies to voles (or rather one amazingly fat vole who set up his winter quarters in two newly planted beds. Grumbling ) That was annoying of course, but I would feel much worse if it had gone for my irises! Angry Angry Angry

Hilarious! Sherry, too funny, but I do hope the 'tool competition' is over so your problem can be solved. Crossing Fingers!

I agree Lilli, if a vole or some other animal had gone for my irises I would feel the same. Especially my favorite ones! I would be ready.
Ready to kick some plant eating animal's butt, with traps and everything. Hilarious!

So sorry to hear about gophers everyone. Sad I had a gopher that lived underneath my deck. (don't think it lives there anymore) But I would hear these strange rusting sounds and scratching sounds coming from a crawl space door in one of the add-ons of my home. Blinking (The crawl space door is like the size of a basement window, not very big) I believe that the gopher moved out and found somewhere else to live. Hopefully not in any of your guys' gardens. Crossing Fingers!

Especially UndertheSun. How devastating must that be to have a gopher move it's den into an iris bed and destroy some iris plants. I hope those irises you lost weren't good ones. Crying

After reading about all these heartbreaking losses to gophers and voles and moles, I am starting to really like my snakes....... Can't stand raking up a copperhead, but they sure do keep the rodent population away.

At least it is not rhinos. My 7 yr old GS recently spent the night here and when i mentioned that the things that were prowling around outside after dark were too big to be cats he said i had and 'infessation' of rhinos. Blinking I am keeping an open mind. Whistling

Earlier this fall, we had some rodent damage. The "necks" of half a dozen irises were chewed down to nubs . Chris set traps and he managed to get both voles and gophers - including the godfather gopher, which was left in the main tunnel. I've also used a commercial
repellent called Chase, which seems to be helping, and I recently bought a bottle of castor oil (the active ingredient in Chase) as backup. I'm happy to report that the chewed irises have recovered nicely in their 2 or 5 gallon pots!

I feel your pain, Rob.

Great story, Sherry! Rolling on the floor laughing (I just had to forward that one on to DH. Whistling ) I hope you get those tunnels destroyed this coming year.

Jan, your Godfather gopher reminds me of one that was terrorizing the Moon Garden some years ago. I had to get a gopher trapping specialist in, and it took HIM most of the summer to finally catch the culprit. He said that it was maybe the biggest gopher that he had ever seen. Blinking

I'm glad that peace now reigns in your garden. Thumbs up
