LOL, I saw bunches of the fluffy Dandelion heads somewhere yesterday! When Dandelions pop up in my lawn I usually pull them up and they go into the compost. I'm a southerner and I've had the leaves in salads before but I've never tried them cooked. I might have to give it a try sometime, a little olive oil, a few spices ... ~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot! ~ |

No, but I've been eating chickweed, which is supposed to be nutritious! I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White Integrity can never be taken. It can only be given, and I wasn't going to give it up to these people. Gary Mowad |

I saw that in my Edible Wild Plants book. I haven't tried chickweed, but I think I will. What do think of the taste? Do you eat it in salads or ? I garden for the pollinators. |

How are dandelion greens cooked? I have always assumed they were pretty bitter, but of course, I've never even tried them. ![]() My husband has decided to try yet another diet, this one is called a "Paleo diet"- fashioned after what we might have eaten in the Paleolithic age. I am eating a lot of greens, lemme tell ya ... In the end, only kindness matters. Science is not the answer, it is the question. |

Steamed is the way I cook almost all my greens and use these raw too. To me, they are only really good early in the year when they are new and tender. Later on, they do get pretty bitter and I don't pick then. Although a little balsamic vinegar might do the trick at that stage. I'll have to check out that Paleo diet. ![]() I garden for the pollinators. |

Chickweed cooked in water just briefly, served with other veggies...or raw, added to a salad. I'd agree with mainly just in the early part of the year, right now they're pretty good here. Later on they seed out, not so good. In cooler mild temp areas, wonder if it could be replanted from time to time so there would be a longer season. Way too hot here for that! I hadn't thought about interval sowing. MIght work. I don't know. I garden for the pollinators. |
I love love love chickweed! Right now we've got it all over the place and it's just great. Free lettuce for the taking. We've never harvested it for indoors eating. We just eat it straight out of the garden. Makes me feel like a deer or goat, out there browsing around. I ate a dandelion flower yesterday. It was good. ![]() |

Going out to pick some chickweed now. And the dandelion flowers and leaves ... so pretty too (weed, pfffft). The pictures in my edible wild plant ID book would rival a gourmet magazine spread. Dandelion flowers on a whole grain, open-face tuna sandwich ... garnished with a pickle, wild carrot leaves and field mustard flowers. Gorgeous. Almost looks too pretty to eat. I'm a dandelion browser; they rarely make it into the house, but I like them added to other greens when they do. Now I'm off to look up chickweed, surely there's some growing around here someplace. ![]() |

![]() I bet you'll find some chickweed too, chelle. It's winter hardy. I garden for the pollinators. |

Oh, yeah! After browsing a few images and noting differences between plants, I do believe I have plenty! I'll double check when I go out today. ![]() |
