Why do the flowers of the lipstick plant fall off before they are shriveled or is this normal for this plant? I've had this plant living on my bedroom window sill for at least 4 years and this past December, it started to have 4 buds for the first time. Then after some time, one by one the flowers dropped off with another flush of buds coming. This time it has a around 8 buds. The plant gets afternoon direct sun. Would appreciate it if you could shed some light in this matter.

Lipstick Plant flowers don't last very long. If yours are dropping off while still fully open, then it may be because you are letting the soil get a just a bit too dry between waterings. Try watering a bit sooner and see if that makes a difference.

The fact that you have gotten yours to flower is certainly a good sign that you are doing just about everything right. Don't spoil it by trying something drastic like repotting it.

Thanks so much for your response, WillC. I will try to water it sooner rather than later as you suggest.
