I have been watching this patch of ornamental grass for about a year now and it seems to maintain itself and I have yet to see a weed pop through. The closest I can find in the myriad of photos I have looked at is a Carex? What do you think?

Grass stems are hollow, sedge (Carex) stems are angular. The other choice are rushes - they have round stems. Make sure you take the leaves off so you aren't considering them part of the stem.

I grabbed a few blades this morning and they broke off as if they might be hollow inside? They did not break off/tear like grass does, more of a snap/break. I will take my loupe next week and take a closer look. I went to a different area of the complex and it appears that this stuff may have come in pieces/a roll?

Oh, its Fescue. Its a tufted (or bunching) grass.
