|You recommend tar paper mats to protect young broccoli plants from cabbage maggot flies. Do you mean cutting some 15 or 30 lb tar paper and using it like a mulch around each plant? I've never heard of this is why I'm asking. Also, would cardboard, which is more environmentally friendly work just as well?
I'm in Zone 8b and have had very good production overwintering DeCiccio (planted in October). I let the strongest plant go to seed and plant those seeds the next year. I'm hoping that in about five more years (I've been doing it for four years now) I'll have a variety adapted to my specific microclimate here in NW AZ.
