This plant is growing in my Florida backyard, it's spreading like carpet, has purple vines with knots, green leaves.

Hi, it's a type of tradescantia, also called spiderwort. Easy to pull up but hard to eradicate completely.

Reminds me of Callisia cordifolia which is found in Florida but my eyesight is very poor so I'm not sure. @purpleinopp Tiffany may be able to help, I think she's familiar with Tradescantia and Callisia.

You will know when it blooms. It's either T. fluminensis:
White-Flowered Wandering Jew (Tradescantia fluminensis)

or a Commelina:

In the US, spiderwort is usually used to refer to upright, grassy Tradescantias
although the T. fluminensis entry above shows 2 spiderwort nicknames attached to it.
