Hi, I've had this cactus for 13 years. My boyfriend knocked it over and it fell out the pot. I repotted it but I think it's dying. It's brown at the bottom but it's hard and shriveled rather squishy so I'm not sure what to do with it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Squishy ! Sounds like rot. Ya should of left out of pot for a week, before re potting.
Cut it off above soft area. Keep cuting it higher until there is no more squishy, soft flesh area.
Leave sit out on counter, for a week, so wound can scab over.
Then place on top of just barely moistened soil, of equal parts. Of cati mix and perlite. Support with a few rocks, or toothpicks .
Don't water for a week.
:tiphat:

Thanks for that. I should have said hard rather squishy, not rather squishy. So if the plant is hard does that mean it had for but it's dried out now? It seems to be having trouble staying upright so I'll support it with some sticks like you suggested. The roots were all dry when I planted it and I was worried I had underwatered it!

Thanks for your help

I don't understand your last post ?
Please re-read, then re-send it. Some key words, are missing.

Send a picture of whole cati, including pot. Please 🕵️😀
Also, answer a couple questions for me at the same time. Did roots look healthy the last time you saw them?
Did you use fresh soil, when you re-potted ?

It is important ! To keep her on same watering schedule, she was on, as before she was up-rooted, so she doesn't get root rot. She doesn't need any extra water, than she needed before.
You've had her 13 years. So, I suspect, her base is Corking, or barking. It happens with age. Base of catus, turn lite brown color. That's there bark, like when a trees stump, starts making bark, instead of being smooth. The barking will gradually keep going up, as YEARS go by.

Yak at ya latter ! Ok? 👍
Ta Ta. 😀
I still want to see her whole picture ! PRETTY PLEASE Lovey dubby 😎😎😎
