What is the best way to germinate fuchsia and penstemon seeds?
Thanks

Fuschias probably require a warm start.
There are hundreds of penstemons so you would need to know the variety to find the best conditions. I have done penstemon as a Winter Sow , but I do not remember what the variety was.

Thanks Caroline. I have had limited success with some penstemon. It would help if sellers provided the altitude that they grew at.
With over 200 seeds I have sprouted 3 fuchsias. Ther must be a trick to it. I have always used heat but to no avail.
Thanks for your help.
Did you get rid of all that dump of snow yet?

Maybe the seeds require stratification?

You are right, some do require stratification. The next question is, for how long. Some need it for a couple of weeks and others for months. It is unfortunate that they can't cross the border or I would not bother with seed, but rather, just buy the plants.
Thanks for your help

OK Dr Deno got 90 % germination of fuchsia hybrids using
GA 3 and in the dark at 70 º F That was in the third week.

At 70 ºF in the light and no GA 3 he got 50 % germination.

At 70 ºF in the dark and with no GA 3 he only got 30 % germination in the second week .

If they were first placed at 40ºF for three months and then at 70ºF in the dark---he only got 10 % germination.
