Took this photo at the Botanical Garden in Balboa Park. It's a cross section. No name tag. Any help appreciated (I know it's not much to go on). Thank you!

I am thinking of a tree fern trunk cross section, though I have no idea of the genus, such as cyathea or other,
in my area it is common to use one as climbing media for aroid (phylo, epipremnum, monstera obliqua or other)
you can also take a picture from side that will show distinct leave's scar
