Hi all I thought it'd be interesting to get some guesses (prognostications -- : ) ) on what this outcome of this cross will look like. Magical was the pod parent and pollen parent was a seedling of mine. Lovely color and form on said seedling of mine, but wasn't satisfied with the branching or bud count. Had a poor harvest of seeding on this cross yielding only 10 or so seeds and only one survived. Small plant but hopefully this year will be its maiden bloom. Here's what im thinking --- A range of nicely formed, well ruffled melons, apricoty pinks, light cantaloupe oranges, muted yellow blends. OR a compost candidate. Judging from Magical's somewhat complex heritage, I counting on being totally surprised. One thing im not counting on is anything introduceable from a single surviving seedling from this cross. Love to hear your thoughts ![]() |

I see ruffles in your future |

... oh, and I uploaded a pict of Ivory Blush into the database since there wasn't any. That'll give you some more background on the parentage of my orange seedling. Ivory Blush |

I think most will have orange beards and a few will have a beard like Magical. Plus as Liz said and lots of ruffles. • “Whoever said, ‘Do something right and you won’t have to do it again’ never weeded a garden.” – Anonymous |

I'm guessing peachy orange standards and lighter falls with a bit of darker peachy orange around the edge with some ruffling. ![]() Voltaire: "Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities," |

Out of 3 seed pods and the resulting 40 or so seeds, so far there are 19 seedlings emerging in pots on the deck. The crosses were x ( 7 seedlings so far) x (8 seedlings " ) x (just emerging - 4) Just using what was available - no plan. No expectations. This year should be better ! Life is a Gift ! |

Very interesting crosses Jan. I'm very curious to see the results! |

Well I'm ready for surprises, Liz! I made some mistakes last year. I read somewhere that pollen could be gathered using a nice soft camel's hair brush, (how artistic!)and I had one, so I used it. But I recently realized that even one grain of pollen is enough to fertilize the whole iris, and it also dawned on me that just shaking out the brush wasn't enough.! So, THIS year I'm using tweezers! I have more of a breeding plan this year, too. We'll see. How are your crosses coming along? Life is a Gift ! |

Liz ~ That does look like an interesting cross. I am curious as well. "Luck favors the prepared mind." - Thomas Jefferson |

It wants to be seen Evelyn, it's growing like crazy! |

Did you make that cross on purpose? I can hardly wait to see them. We have to make new irises for the future generations, not like the ones that already exist. "Luck favors the prepared mind." - Thomas Jefferson |

My iris seeds are still 'staying cool' in the fridge, but I am hoping to see some seedlings from this cross x Hoping for lots of stripes! ![]() I have quite a few seeds from various Haunted Heart crosses, which I plan to cross with the best to come out of the cross above if any of them turn out well enough to use for breeding. It's a waiting game! ![]() You don't know if it will grow until you try! |

Liz, I just planted Mysterioso last fall. And you've already used it in a cross! So interested in seeing what you get! Life is a Gift ! |

You realize to get the white standards (amoenas) the trait should be coming from both sides. I work with SDB amoenas & have to try & keep the standards white. |

And can you get veining on the falls as well as the standards? "Luck favors the prepared mind." - Thomas Jefferson |
