I was surfing the web the other day and landed somewhere that listed helpful gardening sites. Dave, when I encounter one do you want me to point it out to you so that you can decide if NGA should be included?

Maybe I'll remember the one that struck me as deserving NGA in its list.

They should all have NGA at the top of their list!

The best thing to do is for you to send them a quick email asking them to include us. It looks better when a request comes from a member or a fan instead of from us directly. Smiling

And, let the rest of us know so that we can send an e-mail to make the same request! Green Grin!

Ok. Check will do. But thought I ought to ask first.

Wonder what site I was on. I always clear my browser so I won't be able to find it by tracing my steps. Going to have to do a mental trace and I don't have much hope for success. 😜

How many members are we now? There used to be a sort of stats page. I'm always recommending this site for all of it's virtue's. My local Perennial Plant Club is finally linking NGA.

I don't publish the actual count of signed up members because it is a vast number going back over 20 years and there's no way to know how many are actually still active and visiting the site. Even people who signed up years ago and didn't visit for many years, sometimes suddenly appear and post in the forums!!

But it's around a million actual signups.

Not too shabby! If people knew it was free, it might be much more, and it is international. Unfortunately, some of us old gardeners tend to die off, and I guess their kids don't un-sign us. From my point of view, not many of the younger generation are into gardening. Maybe, if they had a mentor ( such as you) to teach them that food doesn't come from the digital world, some would return to it. I give you high praise for combining the way with your family.

As far as the younger people around here, I have to say 'au contrair'. (say but maybe not spell) I'm seeing more and more of them at the local nurseries (poor choice of words). There's a lot of them who go to the free classes about various aspects of organic gardening and native perennials. I think the issue gets down to land and time.
I have no land but being of the geezer generation Ive got plenty of time. And if weather permits I'm going to help sort seeds today so I'll get 1 pound of free seeds of my choosing. Put your orders in now.

Pictures of the seed sort from last year show a lot of young'uns there. I think maybe kids today (sounds like I really am a geezer) aren't 'joiners'. I'll make sure to tell them all about NGA.

Nap time now. Yawn.

Instead of citing the number of members as a measure of popularity, it is better to list the number of visitors per year.
As Dave said, the number of signups doesn't at all represent this website, or any other for that matter. People come and go and sign up, or don't, for various reasons.

Garden.org had over 8 million unique visitors in 2017. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
From everything I know (take it for what it's worth), that is vastly more than any other website dedicated to gardening.

Too bad I haven't stumbled on the site again that prompted me to pose my question here. Haven't given up yet due to Alexander Pope's saying that hope springs eternal. :D
