How To Make Embossed Plant Tags

Among the most frustrating things about gardening are the mystery plants remaining when their tags fade away from sun and rain. The fix is embossable tags, but the cost of buying them is prohibitive if you use a lot, as I do...

I have been making these tags for quite a few years now. In fact, I noticed one on a fruit tree, dating back to 2002. One thing missing from the picture is that you can get some thin strips of wood, like from a cedar shingle, split about 1/2 in wide, and drill a small hole in the top end, then entwine the tag through that hole, and place in the earth in front of a plant that cannot easily be "tagged". An old ball point pen allows one to easily press down on the tag, and impress: Plant, colour, year, etc. Cheers!
