Hi all,

I have a dog who likes to get right up against our fence and bark at people walking by. She's actually very friendly but I think it scares some of the neighbors so I would like to place some plants along the fence line to create more of a buffer. Ideally they would be evergreen or at least leave enough behind in the winter to prevent her from getting to the fence, and something that grows 3-6ft tall would be perfect. The fence line is in full sun except for one part-shade spot where I plan on planting a hydrangea. We live in Zone 8. If anyone has a suggestion for what we should plant it would be much appreciated!

My neighbor across the street has had a privet fence along his property line next to the sidewalk for over 50 years. It grows quickly. He tries to keep It cut at about 7 to 8 feet tall, but some years it gets away from him when he can't get to pruning. In the past he had several very large dogs, and the privet was a good buffer. By the way, they are evergreen. I just wish the local squirrels would stop depositing their seeds next to my rose bushes.
