Purple Hyacinth Bean (Lablab purpureus) is an annual vine; seeds can be started indoors, kept in a warm spot and should germinate within one to two weeks. Plants could be moved to the garden once your weather warms up.

I'm in zone 5 and decided to start mine indoors in newspaper pots. I had a small growing mat so started about a dozen seeds. After they sprouted I transferred them to the grow light. 10 days later they're already about 6" tall. I don't know what I'm going to do if they keep growing at this rate. Maybe I should remove the light and let them slow down a bit. I won't be able to plant outdoors here for another month.

Removing the light will only make them grow leggy...can you pot them up to something a bit bigger until you can get them outside?

Ah okay, I will do that today. I have a room that has huge windows on the south and west sides. I may move them there if they get too big for the grow light. This is just my second season growing from seeds so I'm just sort of winging it. Thank you for the advice.

You're welcome...maybe even put a stick or a bamboo pole in the pot for them to start climbing on...
