Bought a house with a mature garden, and do not know what kind of tree this is. Blooming these purple flower from this velvety buds.

It looks like a Tulip Magnolia. Beautiful trees!

The bud looks dark, it could be Magnolia 'Susan', but there are other varieties with dark flowers.
The garden, where my mind goes to seed.
