She's 1 year old and has never been pruned, she is growing like crazy even in the winter, she get's filtered sun in a south facing window. My question is, should I cut off the new top growth or would that be a big mistake? And yes, I did water her after I took these pictures Smiling

What shape do you want your plant to take?

Two things I remember about avocados from when I used to grow them as house plants. Cut off the top all you want, it will probably never branch. Avocados grown as house plants seldom live longer than 3 years. Reason I do not grow them anymore. IMO, your needs more light. Gene

Well done, Christine! Did you get two stems to grow from one pit?

I'm big on pruning, so I would suggest you either prune of pinch to control its growth and appearance. It will not do any harm.

Thank You Gene & Will, I will snip the tips, Will there is actually a 3 one coming up out of the same pit, I've grown them years ago and I've got to say this one has surprised me. Hopefully I'll be able to take the plastic off the windows and get more sunshine in soon.

Thank You!

That is a good price for an avocado! I love them so much but they are about $1.50 here, and the close-by store that I go to most often puts them in the refrigerated section, which ruins them so I don't bother getting any.

If you have a goal in mind, you can guide your plant toward it. If you just want to see what it does on its' own, &/or just trim parts that become too tall, that's perfectly fine. There are no rules, just wondering what you had in mind that you were hoping for your plant to look like, if anything in particular.

Tiffany I just like the challenge of growing things, like yourself, I think my biggest accomplishment was the $5.00 bet on growing the grapefruit from seeds that is now 4ft Rolling on the floor laughing
