This is grown as a trailing plant over rocks, walls etc and also as ground cover.
I live on the Greek island of Rhodes.
I have tried many websites, but when I find a close photo, the characteristics in the description don't match up. This survives summer temperatures of 50c (130f)and upwards, with very little water requirement.
Could somebody please identify this and advise of best propagation method.
Many thanks.

It reminds me of succulent like plants that are commonly called "Ice Plant"; Carpobrotus and Lampranthus are two that come to mind but I don't know if either are found in Greece.

Look at Carpobrutus acinaciformis, common name Giant Pigface.

Sorry, I spelled it incorrectly; s/b Carpobrotus.

Thank you plantladylin. Having looked at other images, I am pretty sure this is c. deliciosus.
Many thanks for your help.

Thank you greene. You posted as I was replying to plantladylin.
Both your suggestion and the previous one are very similar plants, so I will further research both.
Many thanks.

These Carpobrotus plants (usually C. edulis) are not native to Greece (actually South Africa) but they are found all around the Mediterranean (and in many other mild climates around the world, for example California and southern England), where they can naturalize and survive for many years without care. You can easily propagate them from cuttings. Just bury the final 10-15 cm. They usually need regular pruning to be kept under control. Be careful what you do with your prunings, since the plant is invasive in permissive climates, and will take off on its own if allowed to do so.

Also be aware they will outcompete any other plants in a garden, both above and below ground. (Above ground they will crawl on top of the other plants; below ground they will root into the other plants' space and deny them water.) They are very aggressive. You may wish to consider another trailing ice plant instead for this reason, for example Delosperma and Lampranthus, depending on what's available locally. Most of these trailing ice plants are really easy to start from cuttings.

Welcome!
