I'm wondering if NGA has a plant list of any kind for winter sowing. Dave's Garden has a database but its unorganized, frustrating and time consuming to use.

I'm trying to find info on a couple types of plants and whether they'd work for winter sowing. One of them is Celosia. Last year I put them under lights and not one sprouted! So I'm hesitant about putting them out in the snow.

Meri I don't know of a list but if you ask here about the seeds I'm sure someone will know. Celosia does fine winter sown. I have a patch of celosia that self seeds every year.
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

There is a list out there---I don't remember the location.
I remember it being by zones. Trudy ? Davidov ? or a USDA site now ? I will try to find it later.

But there are lots of people here on NGA who can help you with specific plant seeds.

Another thing that you could do ( if the rest of us were more conscentious about entering our plants in the data base ) :
Look up the plants in the data base, and see if others have winter sowed it.

I fall down on entering my plantings into the data base too.

This weekend I WS primulas and Lewisia mainly.
I want to do some Aconitum too.

Although there's a LOT out there for winter sowing, I go here to share pretty pictures and easy explanations with folks who don't know about it. http://www.agardenforthehouse.... Some of the original sites are hard to wade through and this one is easy for my friends (not in any way affiliated).

He has a handy (not complete list) of what he sows when that's easy to adapt (List Heading Tender Annuals - Sow in March, maybe he doesn't list the Tender Annual you're thinking of, but if your seed is a tender annual, then this is when you'd go for it). http://www.agardenforthehouse....
Remember, it is dangerous to the environment and ILLEGAL in MANY states to mail plants/bulbs/cuttings in. Let’s all practice Do No Harm while we walk this earth and find other ways to connect to one another through gardening.

Thanks all. I did find a list on Trudys website. It would be nice to have one by zones. I sowed Celosia under lights. I'll try it again! See if I have better luck.
