My first bloom of 2018 is a seedling. The cross is Stenciled Infusion x Dragonfly Dawn.

TTT22 - Stenciled Infusion x Dragonfly Dawn stats:
Thumb of 2018-03-02/beckygardener/d023a4

Bloom:
Thumb of 2018-03-02/beckygardener/e36f04 Thumb of 2018-03-02/beckygardener/1be627

The first bloom is smaller than expected and it is showing some rust on the leaves. I think DD does not have the rust resistance that I wished it did, but I can try to breed this seedling with a more rust resistant daylily. It seems to be showing the traits of Stenciled Infusion, which has delighted me. A small, but very showy bloom!

Parents are:
Stenciled Infusion (pod): Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Stenciled Infusion')
Dragonfly Dawn (pollen): Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Dragonfly Dawn')

Very nice Becky, I did not plant any new seedlings last year but have a lot of two year olds to bloom.

Thank you, Everyone! I believe I got the seeds for that one in 2016 from Ladylovingdove (Dot). I believe they were an LA win. In fact, I am sure of it!

It is so nice to see a bloom. I have had the worst luck with daylilies the past 6 months. From Hurricane Irma and just recently the squirrels (<--- I think that is which critter is doing it) digging up my smaller daylilies and chewing up the leaves and rootball. So weird because in all the years I have been growing daylilies, I've never, ever had that problem until recently. So on top of all the daylilies I lost to the hurricane, I have since lost even more due to squirrels. (I do feed the squirrels and birds, too! So not sure why they are doing that. I have bird baths that all of them can reach as well, for drinking water.) No clue as to why any of the wildlife would do that. Confused

The seedling featured above is in a container with other seedlings. Squirrels will dig around in the potting mix, but never actually pull up/dig up the daylilies and eat the roots. So hopefully they will leave the rest of my daylilies alone. I have even more seedlings to plant into containers, as well as lots of seedlings that have yet to bloom for the first time. I have not seen anymore buds on any other daylilies yet.

Here it is March 2. Pretty early for blooms, but we had winter a month early this year, so February was not a cold month like it typically is. January was the cold month. Climate change for sure!

I have that problem with mice, they hollow out the crown on new daylilies leaving a little bowl. Has happened with bonus daylilies that I planted in the ground in the front garden. Luckily the ones in pots they leave alone.

Absolutely Beautiful bloom Becky! I have both of those parents. And look forward to their blooming this year.

Fred, I'm sure I speak for all, that we look forward to seeing those blooms of yours as well.

Very nice bloom, Becky Smiling

We are ahead of spring too, but not as early as your zone. Hopefully we won't get freezing temps like we did last month--or last March. If we stay on this schedule I should see blooms by mid-April. So ready to see some daylily blooms!

Regina

P.S. Maybe the earliness of the seedling bloom means it will be a rebloomer Big Grin

More seedlings are blooming.

CCC124 (Parents: Speacecoast Starburst x Ruby Pearl): Bloom is down in the fans. This one first bloomed in 2016, their stats usually improve with maturity, but that has not been the case so far with this seedling. Unfortunately, it also shows signs of Rust Susceptibility.

CCC03 (Parents: Laughing Clown x Instant Graffiti) I've had this one for several years from a seed in 2013. 5 years! Wow .... I didn't realize I'd been growing this one that long. The bloom on this one is not that special, but the stats are one of my best seedlings! I've used this plant as a cross with several others which have yet to bloom. Maybe this year I will get to see some children of this one. Crossing Fingers!

Stats Photo:
Thumb of 2018-03-29/beckygardener/fa2fc1
The stats on this one are of the oldest fan with the first scape to bloom. The other scapes do not have but maybe 2 branches and the bud count is much less.

Hopefuly you can see the branching of the scapes in this photo. The branches are nicely spaced on the scape with numerous buds!

This first bloom is a bit splotchy, but typically the following blooms will be better. This seedling usually reblooms for me about a month or two after the first flush of blooms.

Very nice scapes on a couple of those, Becky! CCC124 does have a pretty face though. To bad it's short and rust.
