I didn't realize we haven't started a new thread until now.

I am grumpy and sore right now. I had to restack several pallets of tile this morning so they could go on a flatbed for delivery. I thought they were going on box originally so the original stacking would have been fine for that but unstable for flat. There were 138 cases of 18x18 travertine and I did 30 by myself. After that I had a coworker help me.

My back hurts because of that and because a month ago while bending over in a stretch I bounced...hard, and hurt the muscles. I had been pain free for 1 day then had to do this. Heating pad and Biofreeze are my best friends right now. Hilarious!

Back is better after sleeping on a heating pad all night. Still gets stiff at times but quickly loosens up and goes back to normal. A day of going easy today and tomorrow I should be fine. Thumbs up

Thank you for your good wishes, everyone.

The house we thought would work, will not. We had another one on our radar just in case (actually, my wife's favorite from the beginning). We had to cancel the offer on the first one, liked the second one and our offer was accepted on that one. It's more expensive, has two acres (I think I can fit my 500-600 sf greenhouse on that!), and was pretty much turn-key. But with little renovations necessary, the money invested will about equal out.

We are hopeful that the move will take place between April 15 and April 25.

I'm so glad you found something that will work! More land sounds nice. Is it an HOA home?

I don't bother looking at or even considering HOA homes.

The home that we went down to Vero to see was going to require 3-6 mo. of renovations. We could have lived in the mother-in-law wing, completely separate from the main house, while the renovations were underway. We just decided that our age, it was going to be too much construction for us to deal with. Life's too short. Whistling

You were smart. You need something turn key. The move itself will be enough stress, but in the end you should have it much nicer for you and your plants. I agree with staying far away from HOA's.

So exciting.

Think long and hard about all your needs for your greenhouse.. heat, water, workspaces, what goes under your feet..what goes over your head and how you will reach it.. a TOILET????? Make it aging in place and the local news will want to interview you it will be so darn perfect!

Shoot, we started packing before Christmas. We have large boxes filling every walk-in closet (3), the pantry, Kathy's art materials store room, and the garage. There must be 40 boxes! Sighing! We still have boxes to go though - many. Losing about 1200 sf. is not going to help find a place for nearly what we have, from art-work, to bronzes, to old crystal, and glass. Since we are Bulldog fans (Mississippi State University), we have an extensive collection of Bulldogs pieces (400+). In our earlier years we were "collectors". Now we will be "liquidators", just like I am liquidating the vast majority of my tropical plants. That liquidation will involve some selling but unfortunately, a lot of it will involve things going into the garbage and/or given to charities.

Thanks, Rosie. I have had greenhouses for over 40 years. All kinds of greenhouses, from a small, inexpensive one to a huge, grand one. And everything in between. I am also taking my two, 240 V heaters and will position one at either end. I want to have a fixed "roof", and fixed double doors at both ends. I want the sides to be durable, roll-up material, material that can be secured to ground anchorage. Most of the year those sides will be open for maximum air-flow, a shadehouse. But when cold weather hits, it will become a heated greenhouse. I don't think I will have a toilet but certainly will have running water. Whistling

I haven't decided on flooring though. I just want to make sure it will allow water penetration, so that water will go to the ground. That could be a mulch, covered with a durable, permeable fabric, pea-gravel with paver walkways, all laid-in pavers, or some other concept. I won't be looking for "perfection", at least not this year. I just want something functional. Thumbs up

I don't know about that, Rosie. It's going to be hard to look at all the collectibles (not the sort that come in Cracker Jacks) and see them go. Do you know what an Erte' bronze is? We have four of those. But rid ourselves of much of our collections is what will have to happen.

Wow, Ken - a new home, a new greenhouse, and PURGING..... you have a lot on your plate!
I hear you, about the packing. It'll be nice to live in a place where you can actually move around, once things are unpacked. Are there going to be friends/family in the vicinity? Hope so - they can help unpack :whistling:
We're "mostly" unpacked after 1 1/2 years Hilarious!

My grump is that we don't know how to "fix" our neighbour's frozen sewer problem - under her mobile is a column of frozen water, and one of her 2 bathrooms can't be used. We're looking after her home until she gets back from Cuba May 24th. In the meantime, my DH is shovelling her driveway and clearing off her truck. We're to use it (paid the insurance for this month, so far) but there's something wrong with the transmission, and we can't afford to fix it. It takes awhile to get up to speed (can't rush it, or it will stall), and it may be electrical. The fluid levels are fine, but it revs & won't gain speed. Nearest repair shop that won't cost an arm & a leg is an hour away. They need to see it before they can say how much it would cost, and we can't drive it that far without having "issues".

Susan, our move is because our only child, a son, lives in Sarasota, FL. That's on the Gulf Coast and we'll be on the Atlantic Coast, 3 hr. away. That's far better than it is right now though. Starkville, Mississippi is about 12 hr. away from Sarasota.

For a while, we'll have a 3-car garage filled with boxes. The autos will sit outside. It is no telling how long it'll take us to unpack boxes of collectibles. That's when the decision time comes - what to do with them when there is no place to show them? I have a feeling that charities will become real fast friends with us..... Whistling
