Hey everyone! I have a big shrub down at the west end of my house. It's shaded by a pecan tree in the summer, but doesn't seem to mind at all. I was wondering what it is so I can decide if it will stay or go. Here's the whole thing - it's big! ![]() It's evergreen and neither the brutal summers nor the soggy winters seem to phase it. It only had one flower . . . thingy last year that I saw. It looked sort of like an elderberry's flower thingy - lots of tiny white flowers clustered together. Here are the leaves (they're thick and shiny, and have red stems and rough edges) and the reddish new growth at the end of a branch. ![]() ![]() I'm leaning towards tearing it out and planting something else there - preferably native, but I don't know what. ![]() |

Red Tip Photinia, perhaps. It will get even bigger if it is. Porkpal |

I guess I'm confused. Why get rid of it? Maybe prune it back a bit if you want. I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned. |

I guess this must sound awful, but I just don't like the way it looks. ![]() |

No, some plants just don't resonate for whatever reason. I like your idea to replace it with something native. I'm trying to do that whenever I need to pop something new in. I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned. |
